(ATR) The International Weightlifting Federation will be able to bid farewell to the unprecedented 2020 calendar with a competition in which the Olympic generation of Paris 2024 will appear... although in a unique way.
We are just one week away from the Online Youth World Cup, for under 17s, which will be organized by the Peruvian Weightlifting Federation between November 11 and 18.
According to the organizers, so far 402 competitors from 62 countries have registered, a figure that could increase in the days to come.
This virtual tournament replaces the one that was scheduled in person for the Peruvian capital on these same dates but that had to be suspended due to the continuing threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Analysts consulted by Around the Rings have agreed that this virtual competition could set a guideline in terms of the technological structure since both the IWF and the Peruvians have closely monitored the developments of the online competitions mounted by the Pan American Federation and more recently the Uzbekistan Cup this season.
Most of the weightlifters who attended these tournaments, including Olympic medalists and world record holders, will be at the Olympic tournament in Tokyo within eight months.
In the run-up to the Youth World Cup in Lima, the FPLP continues to organize online improvement courses.
On November 7, through the Zoom platform, it will transmit a seminar on the technical regulations for coaches by experts José Triolo, from the United States, Maritza Ortiz, Dominican Republic and Italo Barattini, from Chile. The program will begin at 4 pm Lima time.
