(ATR) Tan Chuan-Jin has been unanimouslyelected as the new president of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC).
The election took place on Monday during the SNOC's annual meeting held at the Swissotel Merchant Court Hotel.
Tan, Singapore's minister for manpower, stood unopposed as Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean stepped down after 20 years of service to the SNOC.
In his address to the meeting, Teo said, "In the past 16 years, I have very much enjoyed being with the athletes through the many Games."
"[Tan] has spent much time getting to know you and our athletes," Teo added. "Many of you have got to know him and know what he can do for sports in Singapore."
Singapore is currently gearing up to host the 28th edition of the Southeast Asia Games in June 2015.
"I am looking forward to the games, not just in terms of performance but in terms of hosting and rallying the people," 45-year-old Tan."Team Singapore is not just about the sportsmen, but every Singaporean getting behind the team."
Tan added the SNOC "is in good shape, and sports is evolving well.We will build on the strengths we have and continue to improve where we can."
A list of four vice-presidents, who were also unanimously elected to the Executive Committee, includes Tan Eng Liang, Low Teo Ping, Annabel Pennefather, and Jessie Phua.
Ser Miang Ng stepped down as vice president, but he will remain on the Executive Committee in his role as an IOC member.
Elected National Sports Associations representatives included Nicholas Fang for modern pentathlon, Melanie Chew for equestrian, and Milan Kwee for taekwondo.
Newcomer Edwin Lee was elected unopposed as treasurer, taking over for Kua Hong Pak.
All council members, except NSA representatives and the treasurer, will serve a four-year team.
