
(ATR) An IOC member is the new president of the Nigerian Olympic Committee.
Nigeria Volleyball Federation president Habu Gumel narrowly defeated the incumbent NOC president Sani Ndanusa on Friday to gain control of Nigeria’s Olympic body, national newspaper Leadership reports. The 36 votes were split 19-17 in Gumel’s favor.
According to Leadership, Gumel "promised a new NOC that will serve the interest of athletes and Nigeria sports" in his acceptance speech.
He singled out his international contacts as an asset that will help the NOC "by attracting scholarship for athletes and training program."
The incumbent NOC secretary general, Tunde Popoola, defeated Banji Oladapo to keep his position. Bappa Misau was voted into the position of treasurer, while Jonny Hamakin returned to the deputy secretary general position. Tony Ubani was voted into the public relations spot.
