Magaly Medina, considered to be the queen of the ampays and one of the few television monsters still in the arena, has told on many occasions that she did not finish her career in journalism. However, he stressed that the experience on the court taught him how to nourish himself and to be what he is today. Not only thanks to the learning of great masters of journalism, but also because of the character it has and the desire not to be daunted by a world that - at that time - was only men's.
And although he has achieved great success on screen during his 24-year career, his treatment of the news has always been heavily criticized. Here is a review of her career and the formula that made her successful.
MAGALY MEDINA: HOW WAS YOUR START ON TV?
The TV host began her career working in some written media such as Ojo y Correo. In the magazine Oiga he had his first approach to show business, where he gave his opinion on different characters of show business. From that moment on, his name was already commented on, thanks to his sharp pen.
His first TV appearance was in 1990, on the debate show Fuego Cruzado, where he strongly criticized Augusto Ferrando's career. She was then called up to be part of the shows section of ATV's El Noticiero. After gaining experience with small blocks and excellent results in the rating, the communicator took over a space that would bear her own name, which managed to position itself as one of the most watched on Peruvian television, to this day in each of its versions.
UNTIL WHAT YEAR DID MAGALY MEDINA STUDY?
Although it is true, Magaly Medina has more than two decades of experience, many have not had the opportunity to question her because she did not finish the race. The host told on more than one occasion that she lacked 2 and a half years of her career, she was studying at the Jaime Bausate and Meza University today.
WHY DIDN'T MAGALY MEDINA FINISH HER JOURNALISM CAREER?
In an interview with Andrea Llosa, Magaly Medina said that she is very grateful to her father, because - despite being a macho person, and believing that women should only stay in the kitchen - knowing that she wanted to study, she took money from where she could to pay for her education at the then Jaime Bausate y Meza School of Journalism.
However, she was unable to conclude it because she became pregnant with her only child. The journalist says that she had to marry forced by her father, even though she had already finished with her partner. From that moment on, Magaly Medina had to move forward without the financial support of her father.
As you remember, two years later, the journalist separated from the father of her son, because she did not want him to study or work, a fact that she was not willing to allow.
A DIFFICULT PATH
In conversation with Infobae, the journalist said that it was not easy to practice journalism in those years, and that she even experienced a lot of inequality, since certain commissions were not granted to women because they were considered vulnerable. A fact that Magaly Medina was very upset.
“Being a woman wasn't going to make me feel any less in the world of journalism. The communications career was full of men when I started. At that time it was difficult, but I became in that world as equals, and I think I continue to do it now,” said Magaly Medina, stressing that prejudices for being a woman were never lacking.
“Empowering myself at that time was difficult, but being in many newsrooms helped me a lot,” he added.
MAGALY MEDINA AGAINST WOMEN?
Throughout this time, Magaly Medina has not only been criticized for the treatment of the news, but also for allegedly being against women. Although it is true, the host points out that it is easier for her to move in a man's world, since she has done so since the beginning of her career, that does not mean that she is against her gender. Magaly Medina stresses that she only treats women and men equally, and not because she is a woman she will stop her opinion about it.
“The hypocrisy of women is one thing that we have always had, we are not used to telling people - male or female - things as they are. Of course, it's true, there are ways to say them, but on television it's different. On TV we are all beasts of the same circus and no one has to be offended or not. Because we just put ourselves in the showcase so that our performance is valued or not. We have to learn to endure everything. They say, 'I am a woman, why do you criticize me'. Yes, you are a woman, but you are an artist, you put yourself in the spotlight and do you want no one to tell you anything?” , he told Infobae.
THE TV MONSTER AND ITS SUCCESSFUL FORMULA
Magaly Medina is recognized as the queen of the ampays and opinion leader. Although it is true, it began with its news “unconfirmed”, little by little it was regulating itself, giving its audience content about the intimate life of show business with audiovisual material as a medium, having a research team for it.
And although it is not to the liking of some, the pioneer in this one continues to achieve great peaks in ratings, especially when she presents an ampay. This week, Magaly Medina rocked the world of entertainment by spreading a video of Aldo Miyashiro kissing his former reporter. As you remember, the actor is married to actress Érika Villalobos.
But how did Magaly Medina come to this formula that made her so successful? The host told Infobae that she saw on TV a niche that was not exploited on TV, so she did not hesitate to cover it. Although this has been difficult for him to “let down” many of his friends.
“When I started doing shows on TV, my old friends were disappointed by me. They said how was it possible for me to get involved in something as muddy as the show. I think a communicator doesn't have to disgust anything, I chose him, I wanted that path. I saw that there was a gap that was not filled, I took it, as I have taken many opportunities in my life and I don't regret it,” said the journalist, who announced her retirement in 2012, however, it didn't take long for her to announce her return.
“I swore that I would never do a show again, I had to eat my words because the owner of my channel convinced me that I should do it again. And finally, I've always loved television adrenaline and that's what I'm doing,” he said.
