The weather froze at 20:00 hours on Thursday, March 21, in the municipality of Escobedo, Nuevo León. A woman lay in a four-meter-deep cistern located on the grounds of the Nueva Castilla Motel. Twelve days earlier, that 18-year-old girl had attended a party at Fifth Venice under the number 1236, but she never returned.

Debanhi Susana Escobar Balzadua was found dead. The law student, who mobilized an entire nation for her search, went out with two friends on April 8. The young women and a taxi driver who took her on the road to Nuevo Laredo were her last contacts.

At around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, Debanhi left the party unaccompanied, as he had had a lawsuit with her friends. A driver from Didi was waiting to take her home, but a few meters later, she was on the edge of the road: alone and with her arms crossed. It was kilometer 15 of the well-known death road, controlled at various points by organized crime.

Juan David Cuellar, as the driver was identified, took the last photograph of Debanhi, which hours later would reach his parents' WhatsApp. By 08:00 on Saturday, Mario Escobar, Debanhi's father, had already spoken to Locatel, the hospital services and the State Prosecutor's Office. Then, the ordeal began.

According to the video surveillance cameras that Debanhi's parents were able to obtain, Debanhi walked a few meters between the arid land and reached the Alcosa transport company, which made them think that the young woman was looking for help. His image was captured by a camera, but it is lost minutes later.

The hunch of the parents and the neighbors' advice led the desperate parents to search the vicinity of the Nueva Castilla motel, but they found nothing relevant.

Thirteen days after a relentless search on the periphery of the Nueva Castilla colony, the Attorney General's Office of the State of Nuevo León reported on the discovery of a female body inside a cistern. It was Debanhi Escobar who, according to authorities, fell into the pool located inside the Nueva Casilla motel.

The young woman's parents allege inconsistencies in the Prosecutor's version: how did Debanhi get into the motel? but above all: why didn't they locate her earlier?
