The journalist, Denise Dresser, attacked the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), for the stance taken following the report of the United Nations (UN) on the crisis of disappearances in Mexico.
Questioned by the actions that his administration will take to curb this problem, the Chief Executive said that he will continue to “face the smear campaigns” of the media, as he pointed out, the one chaired by the journalist, Carmen Aristegui - whom he accused of practicing simulation.
That is why Dresser thrashed the Tabasqueño, because in addition to not providing a clear answer to the question, he again exposed a journalist in the midst of the climate of violence that has also hit the guild with greater intensity, especially during the Morenista six-year period.
On April 13, the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearance (CED) demanded that Andrés Manuel return the army to the barracks because, due to the country's historical context, militarization has been insufficient and inadequate.
However, in his morning conference, the president denied these statements by pointing out that the body “does not have all the information”, nor “they act with adherence to the truth”: “These are no longer the times before,” he exclaimed.
In its report, the Committee also noted that organized crime and public servants were primarily responsible for the worrying rise in disappearances of children, adolescents and women in the country, whose figure is 98,883.
On that point, López Obrador reaffirmed his confidence in the strategy of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), as well as the Search Plan, which he said was “one of the best in the world” in terms of professionalism and work.
This is despite the fact that the UN report expressed concern that the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons is the only one in operation of those provided for by the General Law on Forced Disappearance of Persons, Disappearance Committed by Individuals.
According to information provided by the State, as of November 26, 2021, only a small percentage of cases of disappearance of persons, between 2% and 6%, had been prosecuted, and only 36 sentences had been issued in cases of disappearance of persons nationwide.
It was in this vein that the Organization's recommendations were guided, such as: the urgent strengthening of the search and investigation processes; providing adequate human and financial support to the National Search Commission and the local commissions; and ensuring systematic and effective coordination of all institutions involved in the process of searching, investigating, reparating and accompanying victims.
He also asked the Federal Government to attend to the forensic crisis, which currently accounts for more than 50,000 unidentified deaths which lie in mass graves, facilities of forensic services, universities and forensic protection centers. This, without considering the bodies not located, nor fragments of human remains.
