The National Electoral Institute held a press conference in connection with the Mandate Revocation Consultation and assured that there are people interested in spreading fake news. The event was led by Ingeniero Rubén Álvarez Mendiola, the institute's national coordinator of social communication, and he made an express request to the media not to share data that is not verified by the electoral authorities.

“It is important to fight together against fake news, against misinformation and we are right now to publicize verified information,” said Alvarez. Later, during his participation Master Roberto Heycher Cardiel Soto, executive director of voter training and civic education, called those who shared the news of alleged rigged ballots as cheaters.
