Although Luis Díaz understands himself perfectly with his teammates on the field, the same is not the case when he is outside him, even with coach Jürgen Klopp, with whom he has not been able to establish the best communication. Not because he doesn't want to, but because he still doesn't speak English, despite the fact that since his arrival in Liverpool he has been learning it.

The Los Reds coach told on April 4 that the Colombian tried to hold a dialogue with him about his next opponent in the Champions League, Benfica, given that he faced him on more than one occasion wearing the Porto shirt in the Primeira Liga. And, although he appreciated his intention, the truth is that he failed to understand. This is how he confessed with laughter at a press conference:

According to Klopp, he talked to other members of the Portuguese football team in order to plan how to meet the scheduled commitment on Tuesday, April 5 at 2 p.m. (Colombian time), which will be decisive in perhaps the biggest bet in the 2021/22 season: a new continental title.

“With Vitor Matos (development coach), Pep Lijnders (technical assistant), Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz we have enough Portuguese football specialists. But we analyze the team anyway as usual, we don't need inside stories. We had a meeting this morning with the boys for that,” he added.

It is most likely that Lucho, who did not have minutes of play in the weekend's confrontation against Watford, where Cucho Hernandez plays, perhaps due to the wear and tear of the knockout matches, will start. It remains to be seen if the coach lines him up on the offensive front along with Egyptian Mohamed Salah and Senegalese Sadio Mané at Estadio da Luz.

This is not the first time that Klopp has referred to the difficulty of communicating with Lucho. Already on March 22, he had explained that some of his leaders, such as Brazilian Fabinho and Thiago Alcántara, were supporting him. At that time he also acknowledged that the Colombian is catching up with the language in order to strengthen communication both with him and with the environment in which he now lives.

The technical director also commented that they decided to bet on Lucho because of the category he demonstrated throughout 2021, both in Porto and in the Colombian national team, and thinking about how easy it could adapt to the club, especially because of his style of play: vertical, dynamic, where speed prevails, but also technique.

“There's a reason you're chipping a player. The reason is the quality it has. The reason is the way he plays. With Luis, what was really special is that when we saw him we knew it would fit right away”, he concluded.
