Pollution in the so-called megalopolis, made up of Mexico City, State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala has called for increased efforts to keep pollution rates low, implementing emerging plans that displease certain sectors of the population, so that this Wednesday, 30, a case was presented between a journalist and a CDMX official.
The fact is that when high concentrations of ozone were registered, the Environmental Commission of the Metropolis (CAme) decided to implement the Doble Today No Circulation program, which orders private vehicles with rubber 0 and 00 to stop circulating indefinitely until the polluting particles in the air are reduced which is breathed, since this represents a serious health risk to the population.
Records of up to 162 parts per billion (ppb) of ozone were found in various parts of the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM), so the governments of CDMX and Edomex chose to implement this environmental measure; as a result, Sergio Sarmiento said, through social networks, that people will now have more than a car in order to ensure its movement.
Before this publication, Javier Hidalgo, Secretary of Sport in the government of Claudia Sheinbaum, head of government of the CDMX, urged him to stop thinking selfishly and to get on public transport to improve the use of hydrocarbons in urban mobility.
Fortunately for the journalist, CAMe suspended phase 1 of environmental contingency in the ZMVM. The contingency was suspended at 5:00 p.m. this Wednesday, March 30, because in the municipality of Ecatepec de Morelos the highest concentration of ozone was 100 ppb.
“The atmospheric environmental contingency due to ozone and its measures are suspended as of 17:00 today because the anticyclone system decreased its influence on the Valley of Mexico and has allowed the gradual increase in wind speed and greater ventilation,” the agency reported.
In addition to this, the Doble Hoy No Circula program was suspended, which contributes to reducing polluting emissions. In this way, from 5:00 p.m. the normal Today No Circulation program is applied, so that vehicles with green rubber, finishing 1 and 2 on the plates, as well as with verification holograms 1 and 2, will rest.
At the moment, the monitoring stations with poor air quality were as follows: Villa de las Flores (Coacalco), Laureles (Ecatepec), Merced (Venustiano Carranza Mayor's Office), Nezahualcoyotl, Tláhuac and Chalco. For its part, the areas in which there is air quality classified as “regular” are: Cuautitlán, Atizapán, Tlalnepantla, La Presa (Ecatepec), San Agustín (Chimalhuacán), FES Acatlán (Naucalpan), Gustavo A. Madero, FES Aragon, Cuajimalpa, Santa Fe, Pedregal, Science Center the Atmosphere, UAM Xochimilco, Iztapalapa and Santiago Acahuantepec (Iztapalapa).
