On this twenty-seventh anniversary of her tragic death, some relatives and media have begun to make her name a trend on social networks, so her story is all the rage again as it is also a few days away from her 50th birthday.
Selena Quintanilla Pérez was not only an American singer, songwriter, model, actress and fashion designer, but thanks to her performance in musical genres such as ranchera, ballad, mariachi, Latin pop, Mexican cumbia and especially tex-mex she managed to consolidate herself as a great exponent of Latin music, with sales estimated at 18 million records worldwide - according to ABC News and Forbes - making her one of the most sold Latinas in the world.
Today the family remembers her with a moving message: “Remembering an extraordinary life, her gift of music and her eternal legacy. Selena continues to inspire all of us. Forever in our hearts. Remembering an extraordinary life, his gift of music and his eternal legacy. Selena continues to inspire us. Forever in our hearts”, reads in the official posthumous Instagram post of the singer.

Although the story is somewhat familiar, 27 years have passed and it is still something to talk about, so here is a brief summary of his life that ended tragically at the hands of a murder caused by a gunshot that caused him blood loss and cardiac arrest.
Selena was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas, United States, and although everyone associates her with Mexico, because of the Mexican descent that her family brought, the reality is that the musical dominance she achieved in the Aztec country and that her main successes were in Spanish, are part of the cultural union that still pursues her.
He began his musical career at the age of ten, alongside his brothers Suzette and Abraham Quintanilla III and recorded his first album at the age of fourteen. In the beginning, when the band was formed, they called themselves Los Dinos with Selena but as time went on it became Selena and Los Dinos; they played on street corners, at weddings, at quinceañeras, and at fairs.

Despite wanting to sing only in English, Selena recorded songs of the Tex-Mex genre in Spanish, a medium that was dominated only by men. This is how she was discovered by Rick Treviño, founder of the Tejano Music Awards, where she won the Female Vocalist of the Year award nine consecutive times and her great history in music would make her the legend she is today.
Selena launched Selena Live! in 1993, the album includes live songs that were performed by Selena during a free concert at the Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi on 7 February 1993. This album won a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Music Album in the 36th Grammys, but it would not be its only brand at the United States National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, as it won nominations in 1995 for Best Mexican Regional Album for Prohibido Love, 1998 for Best Mexican Regional Album for Best Prohibited Love Soundtrack album for Visual Media and in 2021 he was awarded the GRAMMY Award for Artistic Career posthumously.

On the morning of March 31, 1995, Selena argued with Yolanda Saldivar - director of the singer's boutiques in early 1994 - about problems of alleged money diversions that various fan clubs had reported and she had already bought. Between a heated verbal fight, Saldivar drew a gun from his bag, a Taurus 85 caliber 38 revolver with a barrel cut according to official reports, and aimed at the Queen of Tex-Mex who tried to flee and before leaving the room, Yolanda shot him.
27 years after his death and with moving messages from friends, family and Chris Pérez, Selena Quintanilla continues to conquer the world thanks to her stunning looks that have marked fashion for generations, as well as her next album of unreleased music that will surely conquer the Grammys again.
