On March 27, Checo Pérez started first a Formula 1 race for the first time in his career, so the expectation was full to see the Mexican get a new victory; however, luck was not on his side and an untimely clash by Nicholas Latifi caused him to lose up to three positions.
Despite dominating the start, staying first and leaving Charles Leclerc at a considerable distance for 15 laps, an untimely exit from the safety car after passing pits gave the rest of the drivers a “free stop”, so he fell to fourth place, a place he could no longer move from during the rest of the race.
At the end of the race, he received the comfort of his race director Hugh Bird, and the head of the team Christian Horner, who dedicated a few words of encouragement and support to him after the event that, in addition to taking away his chance of fighting for victory, left him without a podium at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
“Checo, I'm really, really sorry. That was pure bad luck today. You know, having that safety car at the exact wrong time, but you were brilliant all weekend, well done,” said Horner after listening to Perez's courage over the radio and congratulating Max Verstappen.
These words came while the Mexican showed his unconditional and already traditional support with the team, as he mentioned being very happy about what he did with Max Verstappen, who ended with the victory over Ferrari.
“Nice work, guys. Anyway, it's a good result for the team, so good work,” said El Tapatio, and then contrasted with what happened in Bahrain: “Let's keep pushing. Very very happy for the team after the last race. We were having a good 1-2″, he added.

Subsequently, both Horner and Bird gave applause to his performance on Saturday and Sunday, implying that he maintained perfect speed throughout the weekend.
“Yes, the pace of the race and the pace of qualification was super. Well done,” Christian declared, so that later his race director added: “You showed the pace this weekend, you were precise. Let's build from here,” he said.
These words were given through radio communication, just after crossing the finish line and confirming his fourth place in the race, behind only Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, the latter whom he could not catch up with for the rest of the Grand Prix.

With the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix concluded, the first two races of the 23 scheduled for this 2022 Formula 1 season were held. Now the next destination will be Melbourne, Australia, after two years of absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This race will be at an unusual time, since from Mexico it will be visible from early Sunday, exactly at 00:00 hours, so the vast majority of fans will not sleep early on Saturday night to see the jaliscian back in action.
The Australian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, April 10, where the first major changes will take place in the teams to develop their car, as they will be 15 days apart from what happened in Jeddah.
