(Bloomberg) — Elon Musk of Tesla Inc. said in a tweet that he has covid-19 again and that he “has almost no symptoms.”
The CEO of electric car manufacturer and rocket company Space Exploration Technologies Corp. kept his Twitter followers informed about his first experience with covid in November 2020. The billionaire was unable to attend the first launch of SpaceX astronauts to the International Space Station that month.
Musk, 50, traveled to Germany last week for the opening of Tesla's first European car factory. Chancellor Olaf Scholz. and Economy Minister Robert Habeck attended the event that marked the start of Model Y deliveries from facilities near Berlin. The company has scheduled a similar event for its new plant in Austin, Texas, for April 7.
An increase in cases of covid is again disrupting production at Tesla, and the automaker has extended the suspension of production at its Shanghai factory, according to people familiar with the subject. The paralyzes have irritated Musk in the past. He resisted the efforts of California health officials to keep Tesla's automobile factory closed in the United States during the early days of the pandemic, reopened the plant in the city of Fremont in May 2020, and challenged authorities to arrest him.
Musk told the New York Times in September of that year that neither he nor his children were at risk of contracting covid and that they would not be vaccinated. Since then he has changed his stance, telling Time magazine in December that he and his children were vaccinated. He has spoken out against vaccination mandates and expressed support earlier this year for Canadian truck drivers who protested against measures to contain the virus.
