This Saturday, March 26, the authorities announced the closure of the Chuguacal - Cambao highway, in Cundinamarca, due to the collapse that occurred due to the heavy rains of recent days.

In the face of this emergency, the Government of Cundinamarca assured that it is expected to restore in the shortest possible time the road and bench lost due to the collapse in the Los Chorros and Periquitos Dos sectors of the Chuguacal - Cambao highway.

In order to find ways out of this situation, a meeting was held between the Institute of Infrastructure and Concessions of Cundinamarca (ICCU), representing the Government of the department, and the mayors of the province of Magdalena Centro.

After the meeting, the governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García, assured that heavy machinery will be available not only to enable the department's road, but also to have alternative roads in order to avoid injuries to the mobility of the territory.

The governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García, took advantage of this situation to launch strong statements against the Pan-American concession, which apparently has not been the best when it comes to providing support when required by emergencies on the department's roads.

The departmental president emphasized that all work to enable the Chuguacal - Cambao highway will be carried out with resources from the Government of Cundinamarca, the CAR and the support of the municipalities.

He also pointed out that the Pan-American concession is very bad and does not have solidarity with the department when an emergency is reported on the roads it handles.

They declare public calamity in Cundinamarca due to heavy rains

On the morning of Tuesday, March 22, a departmental Risk Management Council was held, cited by the governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García, in which measures were taken for the multiple emergencies due to the rains that have occurred in recent weeks.

According to information from the territorial entity, the winter wave that hit 50 municipalities in the department, leaves as a result of several emergencies that caused the death of at least seven people.

“We are present in all affected municipalities with the ICCU machinery, with risk management, with housing, with social development, with immediate inputs and tools to deal with this emergency,” said the Governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García.

Likewise, he announced that the manifest urgency was established to implement the plan of action to address public calamity.
