Following the announcement of Francia Márquez, as Gustavo Petro's vice-presidential formula for the presidency, the debate arose over the statements of former president of the republic César Gaviria Trujillo, who, as director of the Liberal Party, said that talks with the Historical Pact have ended, noting that, according to him, Marquéz he issued ill-intentioned and offensive words against him, however, several sectors of liberalism and the Historical Pact have invited consensus, noting that union is necessary to transform the country.

Senator Luis Fernando Velasco, went ahead with regard to the tense situation between the Liberal Party, a political group of which he is a member and, on the other hand, the Historical Pact, according to Velasco, at this time the country has its future at stake, and it is necessary that the bridges of institutionality be activated from the Liberal Party, in order to to open consensus and dialogue around a possible alliance between the two political forces in question.

In turn, the Representative of the House for the Liberal Party, Andrés Calle, said that it is time for his community to make a historic decision regarding the union of the country, overcoming hatreds, inequities and connecting the bases for a future, stressed that he still believes in democratic liberalism, creating consensus and opening opportunities for all Colombians.

Since the Historical Pact, there have already been pronouncements, as Senator Gustavo Bolívar, affirmed that the liberal bases are with his coalition, Bolívar asserted: “The Liberal Party is already in the Historical Pact. The grassroots will never support a candidate from the right, let alone Uribe and Duque. If Gaviria wants to bury the Party he leaves with the notice to Duke 2. If he wants to resume the path of social struggle of his party, he accepts a dialogue.” .

On the other hand, presidential candidate Gustavo Petro gave way to the Liberal Party's decision, but left the door open for dialogue, the former mayor of Bogotá said: “A liberal attitude will always be willing to accept criticism and put arguments in exchange for it If liberalism wants to embrace fascism, we cannot prevent it; history will judge it harshly. We invite liberalism to make Colombia a power of life.” .

Roy Barreras assured that, although Francia Márquez had committed in error, César Gaviria, as the promoter of the current Constitution, must understand this situation and continue on the path of country-building through liberalism, he mainly emphasized: “Former President Cesar Gaviria is the manager of the 91 Constitution that @PactoCol must defend. It accompanied the Peace Agreement without sprain. To offend him is a mistake. I hope you understand that not everyone has experience in building unity.” .

Meanwhile, the Senator of the Democratic Pole and member of the Historical Pact, Alexander López, assured that the coalition wants to agree with the whole country on a route of change, explaining to former President Gaviria the need to smooth out issues with all sectors, López Maya said: “With regard to Cesar Gaviria's decision, I must state that what #PactoHistorico wants is to agree with the country to be able to get out of the reality of pain and corruption in order to live tasty and that will not be any impediment to agreeing with all political actors.”

Although Armando Benedetti did not make an official statement, he replied the opinion of Sofía Petro, daughter of candidate Gustavo Petro, in it, that the views of a vice-president could not be interfered with by the presidential candidate, since politics have already advanced enough.

The controversy in general arises after the statements of Francia Márquez, when it obtained a high vote in the interparty consultations, as some sectors suspected that the meeting between Petro and Gaviria, could be related to the agreement of the vice-presidential formula. Faced with these rumors, Márquez Mina pointed out that his problem was not with the Liberal Party, but, directly with César Gaviria, affirming that it represented corruption, defining the former president as the father of neoliberalism.

This situation leaves the country in vain, given the decision made by the Liberal Party leadership as to whom they will support in the presidential elections, although many senators of this party have demonstrated their affinity with the Historical Pact, everything will depend on Gaviria's decision as he could give in to this call, although, the panorama could change if this political force generates dissent in favor of Gustavo Petro.
