The Head of Government of Mexico City (CDMX), Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, lashed out at artists and singers who joined the #SelvamedelTren campaign, against the recent change of route in the construction of the Maya Train.

During a press conference, the capital's president was questioned about the campaign, to which she replied that the characters who participated “are ill-informed”, and therefore recommended that they not use “fake news as their source of information”.

The head of the local executive also asked them to review in detail the works being built by the current administration, headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), and the progress made in environmental matters.

“They are poorly informed, I would recommend that they be informed, not only because of this work of the Mayan Train, but also about all the actions that the Mexican government has undertaken and we have also taken in environmental matters. Imagine what it means for the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico, having a protected natural area such as Lake Texcoco, 14,000 hectares, parks, public spaces, for the poorest area, is a dream, besides environmental rescue,” he said.

He highlighted the environmental recovery projects carried out by the federal government, such as the Ecotourism Park of the Marias Islands and the Decree on the Protected Natural Area of Lake Texcoco.

“It is very important what is being done in terms of water, including recovery and delivery and justice to indigenous communities that the Mexican government is doing. (...) 14,000 hectares: parks, public spaces for the poorest area of the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico. It's a dream! ”, said the capital's president.

He also commented on the importance of environmental rescue: “More than 250 species of birds that, if the airport had been built in Texcoco, would not have had a space, a body of water to make their migration, would have gone to other places. Today, there is a recovery of 14,000 hectares, 14,000 hectares; imagine what that means for the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico.”

Finally, Sheinbaum Pardo called for information on the environmental benefits of the “Sowing Life” Program and, in particular, what has been done in Mexico City, such as recovered parks, the “Zero Waste” program and the recovery of Conservation Land.

It should be recalled that within the framework of World Water Day, artists launched the national citizen awareness campaign to express concerns about the modification of section 5 of the Maya Train, which runs from Tulum to Cancun, without allegedly consulting with the people and respective impact studies.

Given this, President López Obrador accused during his traditional morning press conference that the participants are pseudo-environmentalists who are with the conservatives and the “fifis”.
