This week it was officially confirmed that a new game from The Witcher is on the way and that this installment will open a new saga in the franchise. One of the highlights of the announcement had to do with the revelation that the title will use Unreal Engine 5.

In the statement that accompanied the confirmation, the teams of CD Projekt RED highlighted that this new video game will be part of a “strategic partnership with Epic Games”, which will not only involve the use of its game engine for development.

“This new relationship with Epic covers not only licensing, but also technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as possible future versions of Unreal Engine. The developers of CD Projekt RED will collaborate with those of Epic with the main objective of helping to adapt the engine for open world experiences, starting with the development of the next game in the franchise The Witcher,” they explained in the text.

In this context, many players considered the possibility that - at least on PC - the game will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store. However, from the same official networks of The Witcher they closed that option (for now): “We don't plan to make the game exclusive to a store,” they said.

For now, not many details of the next title in the franchise are known, although the premise that it will start a new saga triggered speculations from the game community, where they are already wondering who will be the protagonist. The medallion that could be seen in the only image that was revealed led many to think that it will be Ciri's turn to be at the center of history, but we will have to wait for new advances or announcements to have more certainty.
