Chavismo's number two, Diosdado Cabello, denied Monday that the candidate of the Venezuelan regime was the opposition leader and candidate for the presidency of Colombia for the Historical Pact, Gustavo Petro.
During a televised speech, the deputy of the Venezuelan National Assembly rejected the statements delivered by the former president, Álvaro Uribe, in which he assured that Venezuela would have contributed to what he called an “electoral fraud”, because amid the scrutiny consolidated by the National Registry of Civil Status the left-wing coalition reached three more seats in Congress, becoming the majority force of the Senate.
“Let Uribe come out saying that the government that put the registrar, which is watching him, and that they take out the copies, they did fraud from Venezuela. For God's sake. And fraud as for what? Petro is not our candidate. Petro has declared himself an enemy of Chavismo. The only candidate of us in Colombia is the Colombian people, who suffer, who have been attacked, persecuted, killed, who have no voice,” said the Venezuelan regime leader.
In the statements delivered by the former president, Álvaro Uribe, on his Twitter account, in which he attached images of alleged documents of the Venezuelan Ministry of People's Power, which bear the title of Department of Vulnerability Analysis and Intelligent Studies, in which reference is made to the National Electoral Council (CNE), indicated that there had been interference in the legislative elections.
The former president and natural leader of the Democratic Center published these images after calling for the results of the legislative elections in which the governing party suffered significant losses in both chambers to be ignored. Between the 2018 elections and the ballots revealed last weekend, Uribism lost 22 seats in Congress, of which six are seats in the Senate and 16 in the House of Representatives.
The former president's remarks of Petro's ties with the Venezuelan regime are reiterated. Last November, in the middle of an event, former President Álvaro Uribe spoke about what would be the possible arrival of Senator Gustavo Petro to the presidency of Colombia, where the statements of the Antioquian politician pointed out the candidate as the smartest of all the characters of the left wave in Latin America.
“Colombia may have the worst neo-communism in the region. Dr. Petro is much smarter than Chavez, Dr. Petro is much smarter than Castillo, that President Fernández of Argentina, Dr. Petro is much smarter than Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua. That is why I have said very reflexively that the teacher was not Chavez, it was Petro who taught Chavez,” Uribe Velez, told the regional telecafé newspaper.
To which Petro replied on that occasion: “Oh my God! And what will neo-communism be? Is that how they define the thing of taking away the state from the mafia? Is that how they define to give the conditions to produce millions of people and not five? Is that how they define poverty and inequality to be reduced?” , the leader of the Colombia Humana party posted on his Twitter account, following the statements of the former president.
