The price of the gas ball in Lima could be around 45 soles if Petroperu administration was implementing measures already proposed, said the president of the Association of Gas Packaging Plants of Peru (ASEEG), Abel Marín.
In this sense, Marín explained in an interview with RPP that the Peruvian state-owned company did not fulfill its promise to maintain the price of the gas ball for the rest of 2022.
“The goal of the Petroperú administration was to maintain it [the price] during the year. That was going to benefit all housewives and create stability in government. The price in Lima would be no more than S/45 if the measures that are in the folder were taken,” said the head of the ASEEG.
According to Abel Marín, the State must allocate the overgains it obtains from the high price of LPG to the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund (FEPC) in order to stabilize the price band
“This situation of defending the price of import parity, when Peru produces 80% of national demand, leads to the Government taking action against this vertiginous rise,” Marín said.
“GAS BALL SHOULD COST 25 OR 26 SOLES”
For its part, the Peruvian Consumers and Users Agency (OPECU) concluded that there is no justification for the gas balloon in our country to exceed 67 soles. Guild spokesman Hector Plate estimated that its cost should be around 25 suns.
“This product should be costing 25 or 26 soles, not more than that amount of money,” said the OPECU representative. “It is inexplicable, ununderstandable that this is happening with a product that is practically part of the family basket. 8 out of 10 Peruvian families use this product for cooking,” he added.
Hector Plate attributes the rise in the price of the gas ball to the war between Russia and Ukraine, which is conditioning the entire international market. “So the variations that are taking place in this (international) context, including the geopolitical theme, such as what is happening in Ukraine, and other factors, affect the cost of the product as it is a petroleum derivative,” he said.
“It is unjustifiable, it is unforgivable that, with the consent of the current Government, which has not defended the right to adequate protection of the economic interests of consumers, they keep the price of this raw material under the argument of referring it to the international price,” regretted Héctor Plate.
Finally, Plate urged the Government to “convene a dialogue table, with various actors such as Pluspetrol and Camisea, to establish the true price” of LPG coming from national land”.
HOW MUCH IS THE GAS BALL TODAY, MARCH 22?
According to the Facilito application of the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), the 10-kilogram gas balloon records prices ranging from S/47 to S/67.90 in the districts of Lima.
Villa Maria del Triunfo, Rimac and San Juan de Lurigancho are the districts with the lowest prices. While the highest rates are in Surquillo, Pachacamac and Santiago de Surco.
