Sheinbaum and Ebrard do not “cover the profile of the left” to be presidential: Fernández Noroña

The deputy of the PT assured that if the head of government or the Mexican foreign minister were to become president of Mexico, the opposition bloc would not be “in a determination of homeland or death”

Gerardo Fernández Noroña, federal deputy for the Labor Party (PT), said that neither the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, nor the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), Marcelo Ebrard, “cover the left profile” that he possesses to represent the self-described Fourth Transformation (Q4) in 2024.

During a broadcast on his social networks, the petistas praised the work of both officials in their respective positions; he also mentioned that a campaign would be waged against him to prevent him from representing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's (AMLO) national project in the upcoming presidential elections.

Neither Claudia, a left-wing companion, outstanding, talented, hardworking, effective, committed, committed, consistent; nor Marcelo Ebrard, splendid chancellor, also talented, prepared, committed, capable; they cover the profile of the left that I have. For the right, either partner is acceptable to them,” said Fernández Noroña.

According to the petista's statements, if the capital's president or the Mexican chancellor were in charge of the Executive, the opposition bloc would not be “in a determination of homeland or death.”

With me they would do everything possible or impossible to prevent me from being a candidate and not to reach the presidency,” said the deputy of the PT.

Although Fernández Noroña has shown his support for the administration of López Obrador in the past, he mentioned that “the greatest leadership in the country is not him.”

The most powerful leadership and engine, as he himself acknowledges, is the conscious people of Mexico, the people of Mexico in the struggle, the politicized people of Mexico, and that is the one who will decide and that leadership I stand by,” he said.

According to data from a survey conducted by the consultancy firm Enkoll, within the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), the party that took the Tabasqueño to the National Palace, the head of government of the country's capital leads the preferences with 37% of the respondents who would vote for her to be the candidate, while in second place is the Mexican foreign minister with 20%.

Although Claudia Sheinbaum has not openly stated her intention to seek the presidency in 2024, she has spoken in favour of defining Morena's next candidate through a poll, while insisting that there are still two years before that happens.

While Marcelo Ebrard, who has already confirmed his intention to seek Morena's presidential candidacy, has assured that he will participate in the internal process of the party, but has insisted that it must be a credible, reliable process and that an “even floor” is guaranteed among the contenders.

However, Ricardo Monreal, leader of the Morenista bench in the Senate of the Republic, has more than once expressed his aspirations to represent the cherry party at the 2024 polls.

Recently, in an interview with Joaquín López-Dóriga for Radio Formula, the president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) in the Senate declared that he will not decline the candidacy, because despite the internal conflicts in Morena over the presidential succession, his aspiration is “legitimate”.

“I have not declined, I am not going to decline, and my position is very clear: I am not doing it as a vulgar ambition, but as an aspiration to face the enormous challenges facing the country, to deepen the political transition process that Mexico is experiencing, that should not bother anyone,” Monreal said.
