Denise Dresser lashed out at Sheinbaum for revocation of mandate: “Violatory Decree”

After the adoption of the opinion allowing officials to express their opinion and promote the Revocation of Mandate consultation, Denise Dresser ranted against Claudia Sheinbaum, head of government of the Mexico City and who applauded the decision.

It all started when the president of the country's capital wrote from her Twitter account: “Now we can talk about what had been banned from us. To participate in the participatory democracy exercise on April 10.”

He mentioned this after the end of the ban imposed by the National Electoral Institute (INE) to discuss the issue.

After the publication on social networks, Sheinbaum Pardo attended an event at the Tláhuac mayor's office to discuss issues related to the demarcation with Berenice Hernández Calderón, its mayor.

“We are in a position to talk about the consultation, to talk about this exercise of participatory democracy, and because it is the call for all the inhabitants of the city to participate in this very important democratic exercise in our country. We are going to review the scope of the decree to see if we are in a position to participate and, if so, we would also participate,” said the head of government.

This is why Denise Dresser did not hold back and criticized the supporter of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) for her statements.

“Clarification: The prohibitions on propaganda from the government during the election season were promoted, elaborated, and voted by Morena when it suited her,” she began with her message via Twitter.

Subsequently, the academic pointed out that if there was no electoral ban at this time on the issue of the revocation of mandate, it was because the same party took unconstitutional actions.

“If you can now 'talk about it' because Morena passed a decree violating electoral legislation/Constitution,” he said.

The answers to academics were not long in coming and some of them did not take the political scientist's position well.

“Mrs Denise is wrong, the current electoral law under which the INE acts is the product of PRIANIST reforms, so there is an urgent need for a new Electoral Reform, which guarantees a new INE with truly democratic and impartial officials”, “Someone explain to Denise that 'consultation' is not a lesson” control of 'propaganda' because there is nothing to do propaganda about: it is a REVOCATION of mandate. The opinion in question was approved by 67 votes in favour, 34 against and zero abstentions from legislators in the Senate House and represented changes in the definition of the “Scope of the Concept of Government Propaganda” that translates into being able to speak and promote the subject.

On this, the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, also spoke on the resolution of the Congress.

“I welcome the adoption of this reform because it has to do with democracy. Democracy is not exhausted only by electing the ruler. It is a way of life, there must be democracy in the family, at school, in the union,” he stressed during his tour of the state of Veracruz and in the framework of the celebration of the 84th anniversary of the oil expropriation.
