Wattpad Webtoon Studios, a global publishing and entertainment department designed for fans of online comics and novels, has announced that it will apply two popular stories written in Spanish for Wattpad: “Perfect Liars” and “Boulevard”.
The phenomenon of Alex Merrez, the young writer of “The Perfect Liar” with 150 million readers, will be applied as a series, and “The Boulevard” read by Fleur M Salvador will be a feature film.
This is the first Spanish project to be funded through the Wattpad Webtoon Studios Development Fund, created specifically to fund and promote the project based on content distributed by the two online reading platforms.
The new project joins the company's ever-growing proposal, which is currently developing and producing more than 100 film and television projects worldwide, and records an important step in creating Spanish content for Wattpad Webtoon Studio.
Alex Merrez (Caracas, 1994) is one of the stars of online fantasy. He published his first novel “Choking” in 2016 with Spanish publisher Nova Casa, and later published two parts of The Perfect Liar, who recorded more than 80 million readings on Wattpad. So far, he has written 11 novels between real and digital, the latest “strange” published in installments every week for more than a year, and finally in 2021 in actual form in June and has been edited.
His youth drama “Perfect Liars” is produced in Mexico and is adapted as a series by José Miguel Núñez with screenwriters Ana Grazales and Paula Mazlum.
Nunez worked as the lead writer in the Netflix original series “Rebel” and the series “Pinches Mumias” (Univision), and then participated in the project. He is a co-producer and lead writer.
His writing credits also include “La Reina del Sur” (Telemundo) and “El Bato” (NBC Universo), among others. Grajales & Mazlum credits include the upcoming release of the feature film “None of This Was Wrong” produced by Cinema 226 and Videocine.
Grazales & Mazlum 10 produces Netflix series and develops feature film programs from Oscar-winning Pablo Lallen, Warner Media and Sony.
“Perfect Liars” is part of a series of three books published by Penguin Random House in Spain, two of which have appeared so far and have been reprinted 17 times
“Boulevard” is a romance novel that is part of a four-part series by the Mexican writer at Wattpad Fleur im Salvador, which will be adapted by Javier Ruescas, the successful author of youth books. Salvador, who became known under the pseudonym Ekilorhe of Wattpad, studied medicine, but since 2014 he decided to devote himself to writing and publishing his first novel “Boulevard” on the podium. “Boulevard”, turned into a film, is produced in Spain.
