The president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo), Ricardo Monreal Ávila, expressed solidarity with Sandra Cuevas following the suspension she received from carrying out her activities as mayor of Cuauhtémoc while the legal process against her for the crimes of abuse of authority and theft, reported by two elements of the Ministry of Citizen Security (SSC).

After being approached by the media, the Morenista assured that Cuevas Nieves is a “woman of integrity” and described as an “excess” the precautionary measures determined by the controlling judge during the first hearing of the flag bearer of the coalition Va por México.

“I never have in my mind, nor in my past, to deny my friends, to deny the people I care about. I think that delegate Sandra Cuevas is a woman of integrity, she is a worthy woman. I express my solidarity because I am not one to hide a friendship or leave them when they are in disgrace and to be with them only when they are on the high cusps of fortune and power,” said the 61-year-old politician.

He also reiterated that they “abused” the circumstances and pointed out that there is no precedent that something similar had happened in the capital, so he said that he was concerned about the rule of law, since he considered that it should be decided solely by democracy and not by “a judicial coup”, in which he specified that actions in against Cuevas Nieves are of a political and legal nature.

The Senator's comments came after statements by Mexico City's (CDMX) Chief of Government Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who denied the existence of political issues behind the actions of the capital's Attorney General's Office (FGJ).

“It's false, absolutely false. You know what happened to the mayor and the police. From there, they file a complaint and today it is in the hands of justice. We do not determine the action of a judge or a judge, so what I answer is that it is in the hands of justice is not an issue that has to do with a political issue far from it. It is a judicial issue and it is being defined there and it has to continue to be defined there,” said the president.

Although the criticism of Monreal Ávila arose after the clarification of the Head of Government, he indicated that he does not want any kind of confrontation about the case and added that he will not separate himself from its causes even though they are uncomfortable within the National Regeneration Movement (Morena). “I'm going to keep fighting and for that reason I wish everything to go well for the mayor of La Cuauhtémoc. I send him a hug and my complete solidarity,” he said.

The defense of Sandra Cuevas requested the duplication of the constitutional term, which means that next Thursday, March 17, the first hearing for the case will continue, which could mean that the precautionary measures implemented by the magistrate, who received the capital's Public Ministry and Sandra, will be canceled Caves in the facilities of the North Prison.

Cuevas said she felt calm, as she delivered “the videos proving my innocence”, for which the FGJ Public Prosecutor's Office had dropped the charge of illegal deprivation of liberty, described as “the strong issue” by the official.
