Heavy explosions were heard early Wednesday morning in Kiev, followed by plumes of black smoke in the sky, AFP noted.
Around 06H00 hours (05H00 GMT), at least three strong explosions were heard in western Kiev, where a 36-hour curfew is in effect.
In recent days, Russian artillery and aviation intensified the shelling of Ukrainian cities.
After the explosions, thick plumes of black smoke were observed in the city sky, just as on the eve, when Russian attacks hit several residential buildings.
The local authorities did not report the facts and the press was not allowed to circulate due to the curfew.
Three weeks after invading Ukraine, the Russian army intensified fire in recent days, targeting cities where intense fighting is taking place such as Kharkiv (north), suburbs of Kiev, Mariupol (south) and Mikolaiv (south), but also localities in the west of the country.
