Clasado Biosciences (‘Clasado’), a global leader in the development of clinically proven prebiotic ingredients and product solutions for the human gut microbiome, has announced that its prebiotic supplement Bimuno® has become an Official Supplier of British Rowing, the governing body that represents the sport of rowing in England and trains and selects the GB Rowing Team.

As the business continues to promote the benefits of prebiotics, Clasado has provided the GB Rowing Team athletes with Bimuno® TRAVELAID, a prebiotic supplement in pastille form that is specifically designed to support a balanced gut when on the go or while travelling.

The pastilles are powered by proprietary prebiotic ingredient Bimuno, which harnesses nondigestible galactooligosaccharides (GOS) technology to enhance the production and activity of bifidobacteria, a good gut bacteria known to provide additional benefits to health and wellbeing, supporting areas such as immune function, mental and sleep health, as well as athletic performance.

Per Rehné, CEO at Clasado, commented: "We are delighted to support British Rowing and its talented athletes. Even while sporting events may be postponed, training regimes continue. Clasado specialises in using the power of the gut microbiome to support physical and mental health from within, which makes a science-backed, convenient prebiotic such as Bimuno a perfect match for the British Rowing athletes as they prepare for competition.

"While the science connecting our gut health to sporting performance may be relatively new, it becomes increasingly clear that good gut bacteria have a part to play in how effectively the human body responds to physical effort and recovery. Alongside the additional benefits to physical and cognitive health, it’s clear to see why athletes today are focused on their dietary nutrition and gut health."

Bimuno is the only prebiotic ingredient of its kind with Informed Sport accreditation; a quality assurance program that independently tests supplements for a wide range of substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Per concluded: "From grassroots to international level, athletic schedules can sometimes make managing digestive health more challenging to fit into the everyday routine, and more intense training diets tend to be lower in fibre content. This is just one example of where Bimuno shines, as a versatile way to nourish and support the good bacteria in the gut and unlock their potential. Partnering with British Rowing is a prime example of what motivates us as a business - to make gut health simpler, science-led and more accessible. We look forward to supporting British Rowing and its talented team of athletes."

Wendy Martinson, Lead Nutritionist at British Rowing, was delighted to be able to offer Bimuno prebiotics to the GB Rowing Team: "The inclusion of key nutrition strategies to support gut health in our athletes can influence their health, well-being and recovery. This impacts their ability to train to the high level required to be competitive at international competition. Bimuno prebiotic products, through their effect on the gut microbiome, will play an important role in our preparation towards Tokyo 2020 (now to be held in 2021) and Paris 2024".
