(ATR) The Olympic Movement was surprised on Tuesday to learn of a shakeup atop the international boxing federation.

Ho Kim had served as executive director of AIBA since the election of C.K. Wu as president in 2006. To win the office, Wu unseated Anwar Chowdhry of Pakistan, who had led the federation for two decades, and Kim was considered an asset to the campaign.

"It is time for AIBA and the world of boxing to move in the new direction, and therefore I feel that new vision and leadership are paramount for us to achieve our four-year plan, which was unanimously approved at the AIBA Congress in Jeju," said Wu in a statement from the federation.

"I would like to thank Mr. Kim for his contribution to the development of AIBA and the respectful relationships we have maintained during his eight years tenure."

AIBA promoted Karim Bouzidi from deputy executive director to the vacated position. Bouzidi will also maintain his role as CEO of the World Series of Boxing.

Kim had a reputation as a tireless worker, spending long hours on federation business, including nights and weekends.
