Hope Solo, the former U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team goalkeeper was arrested on charges of misdemeanor child abuse, driving while impaired and resisting arrest.

The Winston-Salem Police Department released a statement saying Solo was in the parking lot of a business in the city while inside a vehicle with her two children.

The police department said Solo was processed and released. No other information was given due to the impending prosecution, the statement said.

Solo, 40, posted a statement on social media over the weekend saying, “Our family is strong and surrounded with love. Our kids are strong, intelligent, happy and vibrant, and we are present everyday giving them the best life possible.”

This is not Solo’s first time being in trouble. She was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault in the fourth degree on June 21, 2014. Those charges were dismissed in January 2015 but the charges were reinstated after an appeal in October 2015. The city of Kirkland, Washington dismissed all domestic violence charges against her on May 24, 2018.

In January 2015, she was suspended for 30 days from the USWNT after her husband Jerramy Stevens was arrested and charged with driving a U.S. Soccer team van under the influence. Solo also called the Swedish national team “cowards” after Sweden beat the U.S. in the quarterfinals of the Rio 2016 Summer Games. She was suspended from the team for six months, and subsequently released from her contract with the USWNT.

She is one of the most decorated soccer players, male or female, in U.S. history with 202 caps, 153 wins and 102 shutouts. She was on the Olympic gold medal winning team in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, and also won the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015.
