(ATR) A pair of mascots named Neve and Gliz will represent the 2006 Olympics in Turin. They were unveiled in a ceremony in Rome on the 500-day mark to the Games.
Neve represents a snowball and Gliz an ice cube, the two elements needed for the Olympic Winter Games.
The mascots are the creation of Portuguese designer Pedro Albuquerque who was the finalist in an iternational competition launched earlier this year.
Neve and Gliz will figure into promotion of the Winter Games says Turin 2006 President Valentino Castellani, beginning with the launch of ticket sales in November and test events later in the season.
The characters will come to life in a series of one-minute long cartoons that will premier in November 2005 on national broadcaster RAI.
Life size versions of the mascots are ready to go and will appear tomorrow in Turin at the Olympic Information Center and the Turin Olympic store, where products carrying the images of the mascots are now in stock.
