(ATR) Two Swiss cities will host the 2020 Ice Hockey World Championships.
The International Ice Hockey Federation awarded the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation candidature rights for the event during the IIHF congress on May 15.
Organizers plan to split events betweenZurich, the main venue for the event, and Lausanne, a secondary hub. Zug will be acting as an alternative option. A final decision on venues is expected to be made in the upcoming year.
"The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation has come up with a convincing concept to stage the biggest event in international ice hockey once more," IIHF president René Fasel said.
"We are certain that the teams, fans, sponsors and media will again experience an excellently organized tournament, in a host country with a long ice hockey tradition, short distances and a first-class infrastructure."
Switzerland last hosted the Ice Hockey World Championships in 2009.
