September 28, 2010, Shanghai – The Sochi 2014 Organising Committee has presented an innovative exhibition on the preparation and hosting of the 2014 Games in Sochi during Russia Day at the World Exposition 2010 in Shanghai this week.

The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee's stand was hosted at the exhibition by Russian gymnast Svetlana Khorkina who is a two-time Olympic Champion in bar exercises and three-time European all-around champion as well as a Sochi 2014 Ambassador.

The "Sochi 2014" exhibition was a continuation of the main themes of the expo, which was devoted to urban development, innovative ideas and new approaches to the formation of the social environment in modern metropolitan areas, as well as innovative technology solutions which give an opportunity to minimize environmental impact.

The use of innovative technology also played a prominent role at the "Sochi 2014" exhibition. A unique 152-inch 3D plasma display was used to show the most colourful moments of the recent Olympics in Vancouver and provide views of the capital of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The attraction, "A 3D flight over the Olympic venues" invited visitors to "fly" over the future Olympic venues of the coastal and mountain clusters using special glasses and 3D technologies. The innovative interactive module talked about the Olympic movement, the Games and Olympic and Paralympic values. Ten-meter panels featuring Olympic symbols were made using innovative technology on the basis of an EL panel, which uses significantly less energy consumption than rival technologies.

The President and CEO of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, Dmitry Chernyshenko, stressed the connection between innovation and the impending Winter Games in Sochi:

"The Sochi 2014 project has become an example of innovative solutions for the entire country, and we are actively implementing energy and resource-saving technology. At the Central Stadium, for example, we will use rainwater to meet several of the technical challenges. At the Olympic Oval, energy generated from the cooling devices will be used to heat the building. At the Bolshoi Ice Palace around several thousand kilowatts per day can be accessed, simply by insulating the internal environment of the building. A barrier-free environment for people with disabilities will also be created in Sochi, where "green standards" are implemented during the construction of sport venues and infrastructure.

"Here at Expo 2010 Shanghai we have been shown other innovative measures for minimising the environmental impact of urban environments. The experience gained from this will be of great value during our preparations for the Games in Sochi and we also plan to share this knowledge with other Russian cities."
