The AP's Ronald Blum cited a source as saying that the MLBPA "has found agent SCOTT BORAS did not violate union rules when his company made loans to a Dominican prospect." The source said that the union "concluded it had authority over agent matters and that Boras' actions did not break rules in place at that time." Boras' company "made loans worth about $70,000" to SS EDWARD SALCEDO in stages from late '07-09. Boras in an e-mail said, "We are in compliance with MLBPA rules" (AP, 1/3).

Gilbert discussed his bid for the Rangers, saying, "There was a lot of upside potential, so I put the money together with investors and went after it. It was a fascinating experience and I enjoyed most of the process." When asked if he is still interested in owning a team, Gilbert said, "It depends on the situation. Baseball is my passion. I had support in my Rangers bid from JERRY REINSDORF as well as support from the commissioner's office." Gilbert, a Dodgers fan, declined to comment on the possibility of buying that franchise (L.A. BUSINESS JOURNAL, 1/3 issue).
