It has been confirmed that the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) will open new offices in Singapore this March.
This signifies an important step for the ITTF who continue to expand operations inline with the ever-increasing global interest in the sport.
The opening comes with Singapore Government backing, and substantial support from the Singapore Table Tennis Association in partnership with local authorities.
Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Community Development, Youth and Sports) applauded the ITTFs arrival, stating:
"Any international federation moving to Singapore is an endorsement that our city is not just an economic hub, but one of the sporting cities of the world."
Lee Bee Wah, Singapore Table Tennis Association President, said:
"The setting up of the ITTF Asian Pacific Marketing headquarters here is a huge boost for table tennis in Singapore."
The agreement to set up an Asian Pacific office was finalised with the full backing of the ITTF Executive Committee following a strong and convincing proposal from the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA) and government authorities.
This a significant and strategic move explained ITTF President, Adham Sharara:
"Our aim is clear: to deliver a broader identity to the ITTF presence within the Asian Pacific region. Opening and office in Singapore underlines this commitment. The geographic position, buoyant economy and government drive to attract sport makes Singapore an ideal location for the ITTF."
Steve Dainton, ITTF Marketing Director, will head up the team based in Singapore with responsibilities for ITTF global marketing and assisting the Asian Pacific development program.
Singapore is swiftly becoming a hotbed for table tennis. Having recently held the Youth Olympic Games it will now host the Volkswagen Women's World Cup later this year.
It is also the ambition of the ITTF and STTA to host one ITTF title event each year
