Singapore, 20 May 2009 – Twenty-six sport pictograms representing the 26 sports that will be competed at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) were unveiled today.
The sport pictograms are derived from ‘the Spirit of Youth’, which is the official Singapore 2010 emblem. The intense flame of passion embodies the youth’s passion to learn and the purple star signifies excellence. The contemporary graphic style can be seen in the dynamic nature of the pictograms which capture the ‘athlete-in-motion’ and represent passion, dedication and sportsmanship in youths.
“The sport pictograms as graphic symbols of all the Singapore 2010 sports will provide instant recognition and connection to the YOG. The dynamic graphic style of the pictograms will serve to inspire youthfulness, adventure, openness and fun – virtues embodied in ‘the Spirit of Youth’ emblem,” said Mr Goh Kee Nguan, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee. “On this occasion, we are very honoured to have the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission as well as members of the IOC YOG Team for the first-ever YOG joining us to unveil the pictograms.”
On top of the sport pictograms, another set of Culture and Education Programme (CEP) pictograms are being developed for launch at a later date. These pictograms will be used at CEP activities and venues.
