Paratriathlon For Paralympics: One Month To Go

ITU, the world governing body for the Olympic sport of Triathlon, is calling attentionto its bid to be accepted by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as an addition to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games sports programme.

This week marks the one-month mark from when the IPC Governing Board will make itsfinal decision on which sports, if any, are to be added to the programme.

If chosen as one of the sports, Paratriathlon will realize a dream that has longbeen held by those close to the sport, and become a catalyst in promoting the abilitiesof disabled athletes worldwide.

"Paratriathlon has the ability to inspire and excite, one of the primary visionsof the Paralympic movement," says The Baroness Grey-Thompson DBE.

"Achieving an extraordinary profile for the sport within the Paralympic family isa major commitment for ITU," said Marisol Casado, ITU President and IOC Member.

"With its fresh, exciting and dynamic essence, the sport is growing rapidly and increasing participations in both elite and "sport for all" populations regardlessof abilities."

The 'Paratriathlon For Paralympics' awareness campaign has continued into the worldof social media, with a Facebook group "Paratriathlon for Paralympics" set up topromote the bid and for fans to voice their support.
