The London Organising Committee (LOCOG) has obtained planning permission to host the Olympic Archery event at Lord’s in 2012. Permission was granted by the Westminster City Council Planning and City Development Committee on 2nd September for the installation of temporary facilities and structures associated with hosting the Olmpic Archery events in 2012.

Seb Coe, Chair of LOCOG, said: "I am delighted that we have obtained permission to stage the Olympic Archery at Lord’s in 2012 and would like to thank Westminster City Council for its support. Lord’s will be a spectacular venue for hosting the Games in 2010 and the Olympic Archery will be an exciting competition for both spectators and athletes.

Cllr Alastair Moss, Westminster City Council's planning committee chairman, said: "Lord’s is a word-class sporting venue and will be ideal for hosting the archery event in 2012. We are proud to be hosting several events in Westminster, as well as the entire Olympic delegation and media centre, and look forward to playing our key role in ensuring The Olympic and Paralympic Games are a great success and welcoming athletes and visitors from around the world."

The Olympic Archery event is provisionally scheduled to run from 27th July-3rd August in 2012. There will be two sessions a day with up to 5,000 spectators attending each session. A total of 128 athletes will compete for four gold medals.

The additional temporary structures include an Archery range, a warm-up range, temporary seating for up to 5,000 spectators, spectator facilities and areas for athletes and officials. There will also be a preliminary competition range on the Nursery Ground, athlete areas, operational compounds within existing buildings, and a broadcast compound, which will be located in the same area that is used during major cricket matches.

The action will take place against the backdrop of the historic Pavilion. Archers will shoot over "the square" towards the Media Centre. Spectators will be close to the action and will be seated in the temporary stands positioned on either side of the archers. All the temporary seats and structures will be removed after the Olympic Archery events.
