(ATR) - Alfredo La Mont, the former head of international relations for the U.S. Olympic Committee, has completed his testimony in the bribery and conspiracy trial of Salt Lake City bid leaders Tom Welch and Dave Johnson.
A witness for the prosecution, La Mont testified about a series of secret consulting deals he made with Salt Lake City and other Olympic-related clients while employed by the U.S. Olympic Committee. That conflict of interest led to his resignation in 1999 and charges that he violated income tax laws.
Under cross examination by the defense for the past two days, La Mont admitted that the Salt Lake City bid Â? as well as the U.S. Olympic Committee Â? tried to do all they could to curry favor with IOC members, who La Mont described as acting like Â?royaltyÂ?.
The trial at the U.S. Courthouse in Salt Lake City is in recess until December 1 for the Thanksgiving holiday. When court resumes, testimony is expected from Sead Dizdarevic of Jet Set Sports. His company, a sponsor of the Salt Lake City Olympics and USOC, provided cash contributions to the bid to help with international lobbying.
