ATR First: WBSC Acts as Intermediary for Cuban Players

(ATR) Mexican clubs have confirmed their interest in signing several Cuban players through the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC).

This would be the first transaction achieved with the WBSC as a representative of the Cuban Baseball Federation, Around the Rings has learned in Guadalajara.

ATR had access to a list of 25 Cuban players held by the WBSC accompanied by the statistics of each of them.

The international federation has begun to circulate the list among professional leagues around the world.

Winter Olympics Review in Beijing

(ATR) The IOC wraps up its latest project review of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics on Wednesday.

A group of about a dozen staff from the IOC are meeting with Beijing 2022 counterparts to go over the punch list. Sport, marketing, villages, venues, communications, sustainability and legacy, the Paralympics are all on the program, ATR is told.

The IOC team is led by Juan Antonio Samaranch, chair of the IOC Coordination Commission and Olympic Games Executive Director Christophe Dubi. Craig Spence is representing the International Paralympics Committee.

Leading the Beijing side is Zhang Jiandong, vice mayor of Beijing and executive vice president of Beijing 2022.

ATR Radio: Reedie Positive About Anti-Doping Fight

(ATR) World Anti Doping Agency President Craig Reedie says the fight against doping in sport is in a much stronger position than it was 20 years ago when WADA was founded.

He’ll preside this week at the 5th World Conference on Doping in Sport organized by WADA in Katowice, Poland.

Reedie will step down at the end of the year after a six year term. He talks with ATR Editor Ed Hula about the WADA conference, the fight against doping and his work as WADA’s leader.
