BRASÍLIA, BRAZIL (30 July 2014) – On Tuesday, 29 July, Brazil’s Olympic Public Authority (APO), in partnership with the Brazilian federal government, the state government of Rio de Janeiro, and Rio de Janeiro’s CityHall, published an update on the Rio 2016 Olympics Responsibility Matrix.
"We’re sure that the Games in Rio will be well organized. The Matrix shows which construction projects have already started," stated APO president, General Fernando Azevedo e Silva.
The document lists 52 projects linked solely to the organization and staging of the event.According to the update, 71 percent of the projects have reached maturity level 4 or 5, on a scale from 1-6 (see table below). This means that contracts for these projects have been signed and construction has begun. On 28 January, the Matrix provided cost totals and timeframes for 46 percent of the projects.
The Deodoro Sports Complex projects contributed the most to the progress achieved in relation to the Matrix’s indexes and totals. There are 11 construction and adaptation projects underway for sports facilities that will host 11 Olympic and four Paralympic events. These projects were included in the Matrix's initial version, but did not have defined cost totals
and timeframes listed originally.
As a result, total resources increased from R$ 5.6 billion in January of this year to R$ 6.5 billion in July.According to the update, private investments continue to lead the financing of projects, totalling R$ 4.2 billion (65 percent of the total), with the remainder of resources coming from the public sector.
"Public organizations are committed to the staging of a lean and efficient Olympics," stated APO president, General Fernando Azevedo e Silva.
