Prague, Czech Republic; 3 November 2017: The new logo and event concept for the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games San Diego 2019 have been unveiled at the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly in Prague, Czech Republic.

The vibrant new logo depicts the blue sky, beaches and sunshine synonymous with San Diego, and gives a sense of the youth-focused dynamism of the ANOC World Beach Games concept. The logo is part of a comprehensive visual identity that will feature throughout the promotional activity for San Diego 2019.

Every NOC will be invited to participate in the inaugural edition, with ANOC optimistic of strong representation from every Olympic continent. The sports programme currently comprises 17 disciplines in 15 sports, all selected for their appeal to youth audiences. The final configuration will be subject to ongoing negotiations.

The ANOC World Beach Games San Diego 2019 will take place in temporary venues at a single consolidated site at Mission Beach, San Diego. It is anticipated that approximately 1,300 athletes will compete across six days of competition.

The logo and event concept were unveiled during an update from the ANOC World Beach Games Technical Coordination Commission and the San Diego 2019 Local Organising Committee to nearly 1,300 delegates at the ANOC General Assembly.

Speaking during the General Assembly, ANOC World Beach Games Technical Coordination Commission Chair Timothy Fok said:

"There has been significant progress across every aspect of preparations for the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games San Diego 2019 – our dream is getting closer to reality every day. Beautiful Mission Beach and the city’s history as a pioneer of global beach sports made San Diego a logical and exciting first host for us, and they are fulfilling all of our expectations. After two years working intensely on this project, we are very pleased with the sustainable, cost-efficient concept we have developed, in line with the principles of Olympic Agenda 2020."

ANOC Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg said:

"The ANOC World Beach Games will be the first and only truly global festival for beach and water sports. We are collaborating closely with the International Federations to ensure we have the world’s best athletes in their disciplines for our inaugural edition. Ultimately, our vision is for the ANOC World Beach Games to be where sport becomes youth culture: we want to help set new youth culture trends, with new sports and new stars to reach the next generation of sports fans."

President of the San Diego 2019 Local Organising Committee Vincent Mudd said:

"We are so grateful for the opportunity to present our progress to the 205 NOCs here. The ANOC World Beach Games are their event, and we want them to feel a part of what we are creating here. At San Diego 2019, we will bring the NOCs to where the young people are with our festival of youth-centric sports and entertainment. Our Clean Water, Clean Games sustainability platform will align NOCs and their teams with a cause that is galvanising communities around the world.

"This can be a game-changer that brings NOCs closer to their fans and helps International Federations launch the next global sports phenomenon."

US Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun said:

"The U.S. Olympic Committee is proud to support ANOC and the San Diego 2019 team in this innovative project that is not only sustainable, but cost efficient. We look forward to welcoming athletes from all over the world to partake in the unparalleled environment of a global multisport event, while also experiencing the young and vibrant beach culture that is distinctly Southern Californian."
