World Broadcasters Zoom-in on PyeongChang

Final preparations for major media outlets for the PyeongChang Games.

More than 112 delegates from the world’s top broadcasters are currently in PyeongChang for the World Broadcasters Meeting, organized by the Olympic Broadcast Service (OBS) and supported by the PyeongChang Organizing Committee of the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG).

Arriving on Monday 20th, yesterday was a chance for them to visit the venues and see the set-up and layouts to assist with the planning for these rights holders. This included a stop at the International Broadcast Centre in Alpensia, which is nearing completion and will host more than 3,000 media personnel during the Games. They then journeyed onto the YongPyong Alpine cluster then across to the Gangneung Coastal Cluster to view the Gangneung Hockey Centre and Ice Arena. They ended their day by taking a drive past the Media Village where many of them will be housed during the Games, and the Olympic Plaza in the center of PyeongChang, which will stage the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Day two was held in the Seamarq Hotel in Gangneung. President Lee Hee-beom opened proceedings and said, "For the past several years, the entire POCOG staff including myself has done the utmost to transform PyeongChang into a world-class winter sports capital. The broadcasters attending the World Broadcasters Meeting can witness the tangible results of our efforts. As we are waiting for the magic of the Olympic Games to take place in PyeongChang, I’m sure the broadcasters will bring together those moving moments to the tele-viewers around the world."

Presentations were given on a range of technical and operational areas throughout the day and a Gala Dinner will be hosted by OBS this evening.

Tomorrow there is opportunity for rights holders to meet with specific OBS and POCOG personnel before the seminar concludes.

Media outlets present for the three day visit included NBC, SBS, and CCTV.
