
(ATR) Rome bid leaders will unveil their Olympic bid emblem at a ceremony next Monday, Around the Rings has learned.
The candidate city logo will be launched at Palazzetto dello Sport, venue for basketball at the Rome 1960 Olympics.
Italian prime minister Matteo Renzi will visit the NOC’s headquarters in Foro Italico the following day for the annual CONI sports award ceremony, which are dubbed "Collari d’Oro", or golden collars.
Also in attendance will be Italian world champions in 2015 and many of the country's Olympic and Paralympic champions from 1948 to 1994. The ceremony will be broadcast live for two hours on Italian TV channel RAI.
Next Tuesday afternoon, Italian Olympic committee officials, Rome 2024 representatives and Olympians will take part in a traditional "Holy mass for athletes" at St. Peter’s Cathedral.
In a busy week for Italian Olympic and bid chiefs, Italian president Sergio Mattarella will on Dec. 16 honor the achievements of all Italian medalists in 2015 world championships in a reception at his residence the Quirinale.
Rome 2024 president Luca di Montezemolo will be present at all the events from Dec. 14 to 16.
Progress on Rome’s 2024 Olympic mission will be one of the top agenda items at a CONI Executive Board meeting and the annual NOC meeting on Dec. 17.
Budapest, Los Angeles and Paris are the other contenders for the 2024 Olympics. The vote comes at the IOC Session in September 2017.
