Debanhi Escobar's suitor held back tears as he remembered her

Relatives and acquaintances of Debanhi Escobar attended a march in Monterrey on Saturday, March 23, to demand that the authorities clarify the facts that led to his death in the face of allegations of ineffective investigations.

Among the more than a thousand attendees at the march was one of Debanhi's schoolmates, who confessed to having sought more than one friendship with her, so her memory caused a strong feeling in the young man.

When interviewed about the young woman and her personal relationships, the teenager took a pause to remember her and dare to confess that he wanted her, after which the strong feeling caused by the current situation on his case was manifested in his face.

Through social networks, netizens shared images of the interaction between the two young people, who exchanged comments on photographs uploaded to their own profiles, as one of the images posted by the young man caught the attention of Debanhi, who commented “handsome” to him.

After Debanhi's disappearance was announced, the young man devoted himself to publishing relevant information about the case on his social networks, as well as collaborating and supporting the family of the 18-year-old woman.

The protesters gathered in various parts of the capital of Nuevo León after the inconsistencies and irregularities presented in the investigations carried out by the State Attorney General's Office and by authorities of the entity, who have been accused of taking ineffective actions to locate the young man.

Debanhi was last seen alive during the early morning of April 9, after having attended a meeting with her friends, in which a conflict with the young woman had arisen, so she moved to another meeting near the place where her body was placed.

After spending a few hours on the spot, Debanhi's friends contacted a trusted taxi driver, who worked at the service of a passenger transport application, which was pointed out by the young woman's father, Mario Escobar, of harassing her.

According to Debanhi's father's version, the taxi driver would have tried to touch the girl's body, after which she would have groped and demanded that he leave her halfway along the Monterrey-Laredo highway, where he took the last photograph of the young woman.

After getting out of the car, the young woman walked to a transport company located on the highway, whose security cameras captured the last images alive of Debanhi, who allegedly went to the establishment's surveillance booth for help.

Despite the fact that there were more than 40 recordings of establishments near the place where Debanhi was found, and the various searches and reviews by the authorities at the Nueva Castilla hotel, the young woman's body was found two weeks after the start of the investigations, which has sparked a series of claims to the state authorities, who have shown incompetence in the case.

The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, attended Mass for Debanhi's funeral held in the state capital, where he was repudiated by groups of protesters, who criticized him for failing actions to place the young woman alive.

For his part, the president pledged to improve the institutions responsible for the search and investigation of cases of disappearance and femicide, since currently only eight people make up the group responsible for these tasks.
