Grupo Firme fans pointed out “latinophobia” at Coachella 2022

Last Friday, April 15, began the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, popularly known as Coachella, in the 2022 edition, this American event announced the participation of Mexican talents such as Grupo Firme, Natanael Cano, the Band MS and Ed Maverick.

On the first day of Coachella, Grupo Firme performed from 7:10 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the main stage of the festival, which has been held since 2000 in Indio, California, United States.

The alternative for people who cannot attend Coachella in person is to follow the presentations on the YouTube channel, but Grupo Firme fans did not find such a transmission and pointed out “latinophobia” against the performers of Ya superame.

While the group delighted festival attendees on stage, their fans issued comments such as “Three Coachella channels on YouTube and Grupo Firme will not be broadcast on any? LATINOFOBIA”, “I want to see a firm group at coachella but I can't find any live and youtube will not broadcast it” and “That is Grupo Firme is making history and they are not going to pass them? @YouTube @coachella”.

The fans of Grupo Firme felt that the band headed by Eduin Caz was suffering discrimination, as all other musicians, artists and bands were broadcast on the internet. “If you consider that the group played on the main stage, it is rare that they haven't played it, racist cul*ros,” one netizen commented on Twitter.

For its part, the Coachella YouTube channel reported that the broadcast of Grupo Firme would take place on the second weekend of the festival, that is, someday between 21 and 24 April.

However, Coachella attendees who were fortunate enough to see Grupo Firme live shared small clips of their presentation and called the show spectacular “OK but have you seen the Mexican vibe on stage yet?” and “They're breaking it” were just some of the positive comments.

The complaints about racism, discrimination and Latin phobia reached the ears of the musicians of Grupo Firme, so they sent a message to their fans on their Instagram account, in the short text, they made it clear that Coachella had been a memorable experience and at the same time, they thanked them.

“Friday 15th April A story we will never forget We did what we had to do and we enjoyed how we had to enjoy, thank you all for always being with us defending ourselves with cloak and sword”, they began in their message, which accompanied with the highlights of their presentation.

Finally, the interpreters of El Toxico wrote the following: “Hopefully they feel proud of us just as we are proud to have the coolest fanaticos Mexico present at @coachella”.

For two weekends, the Empire Polo Club, in the United States, will host a large number of artists, who over the years have diversified in terms of the genres they play. Other artists include Harry Styles, Billie Elish, The Weekend, Karol G and Doja Cat.

Another Mexican who will be performing at Coachella is Natanael Cano, but his participation will take place until Sunday, April 24, that is, on the second weekend of this festival.

Although there have been artists and bands from Mexico in various editions of Coachella, not all of them have been on the main stage, which is considered a great achievement at any music festival. Café Tacvba was also present in this space, which was the pioneer band to participate in 2003.

It should be noted that the MS Band was already announced since 2020 in the edition that was postponed due to the coronavirus, at that time, its announcement caused a stir on social networks since this festival frequently features groups in English. This group will perform its show next Sunday, April 17 from 3:20 p.m. to 4:10 p.m.
