Titanic: 110 years after the tragedy the film floods Mexican TV

This April 15 marks the 110th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, the majestic ship that promised to be indestructible but, after hitting an iceberg during its first voyage, it lost control leaving more than 1,500 people without life and about 700 survivors.

The legendary story of the boat that sailed from Southampton to New York on 10 April 1992 has been passed down from generation to generation not only because of the valuable testimonies left by the people who survived thanks to the boats and the timely help they received, but also because of the dramatization that went from being a classic of cinema worldwide to a film exploited on Mexican television.

In 1997, the film starring Kate Winslet, Leonardo DiCaprio and Billy Zane was trained with great expectations due to the story it would tell about an unprecedented historical moment, the special effects that would be used to recreate the sinking, and the spectacular performances of the main characters.

The efforts of the production directed by James Cameron soon paid off and it soon became a blockbuster, raising more than 2 billion dollars while the budget was around $200 million, setting the tone for the next projects of the seventh art. This was only a reflection of the acceptance it had among the public at the international level, but it was not all.

In 1998, Titanic led 14 nominations for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards, also known as the Oscars, and won 11 golden statuettes, including: “Best Film”, “Best Visual Effects”, “Best Production Design”, “Best Soundtrack”, “Best Director”,” Best Photography”, “Best Costume Design”, “Best Sound”, “Best Sound Editing”, “Best Editing”.

Contrary to critics, Leonardo DiCaprio did not win the Oscar for “Best Actor”, a situation that he would drag on for several years in his career until in 2016 he won his long-awaited award for El Renacido, a film directed by Alejandro González Iñarritu. Overall, Titanic was also applauded at the Golden Globes, Producers Union, MTV Movie Award, Critic's Choice Award, to mention other awards.

The richness of the now considered film classic was not only reflected in the winnings and awards, but also in the experiences that the production experienced during the recordings, from the uncontrollable nerves of Leonardo DiCaprio over the controversial nude of Kate Winslet, a group of poisoned on the set until the creative development that followed James Camero in order to achieve it.

The film is also remembered for My heart will go on, the theme song played by Céline Dion, the blue heart that according to the dramatization was lost in the sea and some scenes starring Kate and Leonardo, among which stands out when they received the sea breeze on the shore of the ship and the death of Jack the lack of space in a wood that saved Rose.

In fact, these two scenes have now become memes that have been used for different themes. Thanks to this, Titanic went from a classic film to a television hit that is constantly broadcast during special periods such as the commemoration of the sinking, Christmas, New Year or every time there is a vacation time.

However, those who want to enjoy the tragic love story based on real events outside of television programming can do it through the Star plus platform. It is worth mentioning that the film lasts approximately 3 hours 14 minutes, which usually varies when it is broadcast on the small screen.
