This Tuesday, April 12, it transpired that the former candidate for the government of San Luis Potosí for the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), Mónica Rangel Ramírez, was arrested in the State of Mexico (eDomEx).

According to the first reports, the former head of the entity's Ministry of Health was arrested by potosine elements belonging to the justice system in eDOMEx, thanks to a collaboration agreement between the two institutions.

The statement issued by the Prosecutor did not specify the crimes for which she is accused; however, it is presumed that it could be because of her probable involvement in criminal association, illicit enrichment, misuse of public service, trading in influence, embezzlement and vandalism.

And it is that Mónica Rangel Martínez, former candidate for the gubernatorial government for the Guinda party, is a surgeon graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM); in addition, she has two master's degrees: one in Public Health; the other, in Education.

Since 1998, he has even been part of the Mexican Society of Public Health AC as an active member, where he has presented some research papers.

Despite having been in the public service of the entity for more than 25 years under the governments of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), her name came to light last year when it was announced that she would be Morena's candidate for gubernatorial.

Rangel was chosen through internal surveys in which 21 women participated, according to what was reported at the time by Mario Delgado , national leader of Morena.

“I'm not going to fail them. My work is always responsible and inclusive. I aspire to transform my state, but above all to do it hand in hand with the people, there is no other way,” said Rangel after being announced as the Morenist flag bearer.

One of the points he highlighted in his profile, beyond his academic knowledge, was his management of the COVID-19 pandemic, since, based on the initial surveys of the campaigns, he led preferences for the local executive.

However, he came in third place on election day, obtaining 139,243 votes, which represented 11.46% of the total votes; while the winner, Gallardo Cardona, won 458,156 votes, or 37.7%.

However, during her campaign she faced controversy, as she almost lost her registration with the National Electoral Institute (INE) because the Technical Control Unit accused her of not having submitted her pre-campaign expenditure reports.

Faced with this fact, Delgado Carrillo accused the councillors of undertaking a “hunt disguised as oversight”, since that same problem was faced by Felix Salgado Macedonio and Raúl Morón.

It should be noted that, unlike his fellow campaigners, Rangel was able to continue his campaign until the end, but this type of event caused him to decrease his popularity, which was reflected in the results of the elections.

Months after she lost on election day, the former official announced that she had already been warned of a possible arrest by officers of the Investigative Police, since she herself had informed the media that last January she had taken refuge in front of a federal judge to avoid lose their freedom.

On that occasion, the doctor indicated that she learned that she was being sought through her neighbors, as they informed her that agents were on the outskirts of her home, so she decided to take refrain from actions that could be carried out by 17 judges, the State Attorney General's Office and the Secretariat of Public Security of San Luis Potosi.

Regarding the accusations against him, Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, governor of San Luis Potosí, said that they come from the federal level, not from investigations from local authorities.
