In the midst of screams and confusion, a New York subway passenger recorded the moment when the train arrives at the station and people hurry out of the car where the shooting that left more than 10 people injured in Brooklyn would have occurred.

The author of the video was in the next car, but he has the camera ready to capture what was happening. I had heard something.

When the doors open upon arrival at the 36th Street station in Sunset Park, dozens of passengers leave in a hurry. They are more scenes of confusion than panic, in the middle of smoke of unknown origin.

However, the images show at least two passengers injured and with blood stains, so the shooting would have occurred in that car. The first official reports indicate that there were 13 injured, five of them by gunshots.

The shots were fired around 8.30 (local time, 13.30 GMT), a time of high influx on public transport. One passenger told the New York Post that she lost count of the shots she heard. “There were many. I don't even know how many,” said the woman, identified as Clair.

The station connects lines D, N and R. Train service was interrupted. Local schools, including Sunset Park High School across the street from the station, were closed.

The suspect, according to the first reports, was wearing a gas mask and a construction vest, similar to the one worn by Metro workers, and fled the scene. The video did not record anyone with that description and at the moment there are no detainees.

ABC News reported that officers are investigating whether a smoke device was detonated and that police are looking for the suspect. Authorities reported that they found multiple unexploded devices, but no active explosives.

The incident came a day after Biden announced new gun control measures, increasing, in particular, restrictions on so-called “ghost weapons”, which are difficult to track because they can even be assembled at home.

Lax gun laws and the right to carry them guaranteed in the Constitution repeatedly hamper attempts to reduce the number of weapons in circulation, despite the fact that most Americans say they are in favor of imposing greater controls.

Three quarters of all homicides in the United States are committed with weapons, and the number of pistols, revolvers and other types of weapons for sale continues to rise.
