The popularity of the head of government of Mexico City fell in April, where the percentage of approval for her administration was 52% due to the fact that a large part of the capital's residents negatively rate her management in the areas of economy, corruption and public safety, while her activism around the Revocation of Mandate and the Electricity Reform divides citizens.

According to the survey published by the newspaper El Financiero, approval to the president has not managed to recover to levels prior to the collapse of a section of Metro line 12 in May 2021, when its approval rate fell from 71% to just 49%.

The line where most of the population of Mexico City coincides is that Sheinbaum is currently more focused on pushing its eventual candidacy for President of the Republic in 2024 with 51%, while only 41% consider that it is focused on governing the capital.

In those same sections, the negative opinions were these: 42% on public transport, 53% on corruption, 60% in the economy and 62% on security.

Although their approval level is at 52%, only 46% said in the survey they felt very satisfied or somewhat satisfied with Sheinbaum Pardo's administration. The decline is significant considering that only in December 2021 the favorable index was 61%.

After a few weeks in which she engaged in an open confrontation against the National Electoral Institute (INE) over the issue of the Mandate Revocation, negative perceptions were slightly higher, and the highest percentage of respondents by the newspaper felt that the capital's ruler did not do well to in addition, a slight majority unfavorably described the mass event at the Monument to the Revolution in support of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's Electric Reform.

Just this Monday, Claudia Sheinbaum launched a call to the Federal Deputies to approve the Electricity Reform sent by the head of the executive and argued that the “sovereignty of our homeland” is at stake.

After Sunday, April 10, the Head of Government of Mexico City released a joint statement with the governors affiliated to the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), in which they celebrated the ratification of President López Obrador through the consultation on the Revocation of Mandate.

“Long live democracy! #SomosMillonesConAMLO”, wrote Claudia Sheinbaum on her social networks along with the text in which they also attacked the INE, because although they stated their mistakes in the organization, they presumed that citizen participation was a success.

“Despite the fact that the INE did everything to prevent the participation of the people: such as the appointment of the date on the Sunday before Easter, the installation of a third of the squares regarding a constitutional election, its remoteness and poor location, the failure to previously inform the location of the same, as well as the last-minute changes; despite all this, the people voted and ratified our president.”

Due to a recurrent use of its official social media accounts to promote citizen participation in favor of the President of the Republic, the INE issued several precautionary measures against Sheinbaum and urged her to maintain neutrality as a public official, a situation that was denounced by Claudia Sheinbaum herself, who described the measures as undemocratic.
