This cultural and linguistic diversity makes this department richer and more interesting, giving tourists two routes for their itinerary in Puno: The Aymara route and the Quechua route.
Below we will know the places that you should visit yes or yes on your trip to Puno.
PUNO CATHEDRAL
Puno Cathedral is located in the same city of Puno. Its architecture is that of a colonial building built in the 17th century. Its creation was linked to the protection of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.
Its construction completes several years.
TEMPLE OF FERTILITY
Popularly known as Inka Uyo, this temple is located about 18 kilometers from the city of Puno. It is a unique place in the world, as it has stones built in the shape of phalluses, which number more than 80 in total. This construction was carried out by the ancient inhabitants of Chucuito in order to ask the Pachamama (and nature) for human reproduction and also a fertile land to have a good time of dreaming and harvest. This is located within the Aymara route.
CHULLPAS DE MOLLOCO
Located in the last part of the Aymara Route, the Chullpas de Molloco are 36 kilometers south of the city of Puno. It is a pre-Inca settlement of the Lupaca culture, which shows the contact and synergy of two cultures, the Inca and the Lupaca, the latter were known as “the men of the sun”.
According to archaeologists, the remains show that there was coexistence between both cultures, which were also independent kingdoms.
ARAMU MURU PORTAL
Legends of the area tell that there was a priest named Aramu Muru, who took a golden solar disc kept in Ccoricancha (Cusco) and fled the Spanish invasion somewhere in the Province of Juli. He reached the mountains of the area and placed the disc in the sacred door as the key is embedded in the plate of a door. This caused a door to open and he disappeared behind it.
This portal located in Ilave is full of mysticism and is a perfect place to meditate, fill yourself with energy and feel more strongly within. Many people have claimed to feel an inexplicable energy when they hit their forehead (the third eye) in the portal.
Scientific studies indicate that it could be a three-dimensional portal, also known as a “wormhole”, because the electromagnetic field and temperatures are unstable and all this would mean that it would be an “interstellar portal”. This enigmatic place is within the Aymara Route.
UROS ISLAND AND TAQUILE ISLAND
Unlike the islands that are known, Uros Island and Taquile are floating islands created and made by hand by the inhabitants themselves. They are 30 minutes from the city of Puno.
The base is made with an aquatic plant that grows in Lake Titicaca, called cattail, which is woven and laid on another similar layer to form a thick base. Around 7 families live on each island.
Their main source of food was fishing, but with the scarcity of this resource and at the same time safeguarding it, they have chosen to promote tourism of a unique attraction in the world that you should not miss.
The work to maintain these islands is arduous, as every 20 days they add a new layer of cattail on the surface and tie the islands to ropes and stake that dive into the depths of Titicaca.
Something unique that you will see in Taquile is the use of their typical clothes, very colorful and harmonious to the eye and they also continue to barter. It has unique landscapes and is located at 3950 meters above sea level.
Taquile Island is considered an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco.
You can find tours from S/55 soles.
AMANTANI ISLAND
Amanatani Island is the largest island in all of Lake Titicaca, where trees and flowers such as eucalyptus and cantuta abound. Every third Thursday in January there is an important ritual for the inhabitants and it is towards Pachamama (Mother Earth) and Pachatata (Father Heaven).
TINAJANI CANYON
Located on the Quechua route 150 km from the city of Puno. The Tinajani Canyon is made up of anthropomorphic stones, with narrow streams and small rivers that run through its territory. Within this splendorous place are the funeral chullpas of ancient Puno cultures.
According to scientific studies, it is said that in ancient times this canyon was part of the depth of an immense lake.
SILLUSTANI ARCHAEOLOGICAL COMPLEX
It is a field of tubular tombs in which are the remains of names of the Kolla culture. Its architecture is truly admirable, because the mausoleums are between four, six and twelve meters high.
Located within the Quechua route, it is known that within these chullpas the buried bodies were mummified in order to preserve the body in the best possible state. Many of these have animals such as lizards, among others, carved in the outer paste.
