It is no secret that a large portion of the population agrees with Pedro Castillo's departure from the presidency of Peru. Not only have there been two vacancy motions since the Congress of the Republic, but last Tuesday there was a massive march in Lima in rejection of the teacher's government, adding to the widespread discontent that is felt in the provinces.

In this supposed scenario, if Castillo is removed from office or resigns from office, the succession would fall to Vice President Dina Boluarte, according to the Political Constitution of Peru. The official has also served as Minister of Development and Social Inclusion since the start of the government of Peru Libre. She has been cautious in answering whether she would take office should the head of state leave.

However, this Wednesday there was an event that drew attention. In the afternoon, the press conference was held after the Council of Ministers. Premier Aníbal Torres, Defense Minister José Gavidia, Minister of Economy and Finance, Oscar Graham, Dina Boluarte, among others, participated there. But at the end of the conference, some journalists jokingly said goodbye to the head of the Midis calling her president and future president. She merely made a cordial gesture with her hand as if she said goodbye.

Earlier, the vice president referred to the crisis that the government is going through. “I would like to appeal to all Peruvians, to the press that daily reports the incidents that occur in Peru, also to political leaders, to all parties, social organizations, professional associations, to the brothers and sisters who are leaders of transporters, to housewives, to everyone in general, let us unite in order to order the homeland, to understand the economic situation that the country is going through,” he said.

“We recognize that we surely have errors in management, but this is not the time to blame everything on the Government either, we know that the hydrocarbon crisis is limiting us to the issue of the external conflict between Russia and Ukraine, we know that the economic crisis too, because the price of wheat, corn and soy has increased almost in by 70% globally and that is causing the costs of basic necessities to increase,” he added.

SPECIAL GRANTS

During the conference, Boluarte reported that the Executive agreed to generate additional extraordinary grants for the Juntos, Contigo and Pensión 65 social programs managed by the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis). Concerned about the rising cost of living and the ways in which we reach our users, in coordination with the Office of Economy and Finance, “it has been agreed to generate additional extraordinary grants for the Juntos, Contigo and Pensión 65 programs,” the minister specified.

“These additional extraordinary grants will enable our users of these three programs within the Midis to defuse the rise in the cost of living,” Boluarte added, during a press conference held at the end of today's Council of Ministers session.

VULNERABLE HOMES

In addition, these resources will help vulnerable households, our children, not to regress in their food and care, an issue that, from the Midis, we are paying close attention to, commented the minister.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, accompanied by several ministers of state, informed the public about the latest decisions taken at the session of the Council of Ministers.
