They couldn't fight Monreal: the legislator dispatched to the PRI and the PAN from the Senate rostrum

Neither Julen Rementería, nor Kenia López Rabadán, nor Lilly Tellez nor Víctor Fuentes, nor any other legislator could reverse the argument of Morena's leader in the Chamber of Deputies

This Wednesday, April 6, the plenary session of the Senate of the Republic shook almost at the beginning of the ordinary session, as it was interrupted by a series of criticisms surrounding the scandal related to Adán Augusto López Hernández, head of the Segob, regarding the use of a National Guard (GN) aircraft.

The spirits of the senators of the so-called parliamentary opposition rose so much that Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of the Morena bench, went to the rostrum to answer the legislators who had already participated and to answer those who continue to criticize the executive branch.

Monreal Ávila's argument, presented in his first participation, was simple, but well justified: the Senate cannot assume functions of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), to initiate an investigation process against the holder of the Segob; nor can it adopt sole powers of the judiciary to judge the official, so that it would be meaningless to continue to elaborate on the subject.

The leader of Morena in the Senate answered all the questions he was asked about the controversy of the Segob and the NG

In addition, he criticized the tolerance of the Senate Board of Directors, since it allowed various legislators to rule on an issue that does not fall within the competence of being treated and, in addition, to incur disqualifications that are not official in nature.

Before Monreal participated, Senators Emilio Álvarez Icaza, Beatriz Paredes Rangel and Julen Rementería del Puerto spoke, but it was the coordinator of the National Action Party (PAN) who exceeded his time in the rostrum without making a specific statement, as he only presented a video branding him as corrupt López Hernandez, Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Luis Rodríguez Bucio, commander of the National Guard.

He then had a second participation, in which he accepted the questions of five more senators (four from the PAN and one from the PRI): Kenya López Rabadán, Victor Fuentes Solis, Lilly Tellez García, Erandi Bermudez Méndez and Jorge Ramírez Marín (PRI). Being the only one of the senator of the Institutional Revolutionary who appeared without hostility.

He first answered Kenia López Rabadán, who asked him if the holders of Segob and GN violated the law. In that sense, the PAN player asked to reduce the answer by a yes or no; however, the one for Regeneration Nacional did not fall into provocation and reiterated that as a senator it is not his responsibility to make that judgment and reminded him that due process exists for this, “I am not a judge, I am not the Public Ministry”, he reiterated.

Then it was the turn of Víctor Fuentes, who wanted to corner him in a syllogism to express his opinion on Felipe Calderón or Enrique Peña Nieto; consequently, Dr. Monreal Ávila anticipated the panist's intention and told him that “it is consistent” with his position and did not express any opinion.

Frustrated, Fuentes Solis again questioned Monreal and asked him to comment on López Obrador's statements against the former presidents, and, again, Monreal did not fall into the approach. In that regard, he pointed out that he cannot comment on someone's opinion and if the PAN senator has that doubt, then ask the president directly and he ruled that if he does not like the government, he can go and participate in the Revocation of Mandate and vote against AMLO.

As if this were not enough, Lilly Tellez also took the floor to reject Ricardo Monreal, but the senator did not ask any questions, she simply quoted President López Obrador, this to argue that it was “the greatest insult we have ever heard in the history of this country towards the laws and the Constitution which he himself swore to fulfill”. Consequently, Ricardo Monreal congratulated her:

Finally, Jorge Ramírez Marín and Erandi Bermúdez did the same to raise the meaning of public debate and, in a more conciliatory sense, the president of the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) pointed out that this is how it should happen in the Senate. Afterwards, they continued with the agenda of the session.
