Florian Thauvin's arrival in Mexican football caused enormous expectations due to the history of being world champion and his time in European football. By leaving Olympique de Marseille, his future was able to continue in the leagues with the highest football level in the world. Although a team from the Italian league contacted him for a possible offer, the formal proposal of the UANL team, as well as André-Pierre Gignac, convinced him to reach Liga MX.

In an interview for French media Canal +, the French World Cup player confessed to having rejected a proposal from AC Milan, Serie A because, although they intended to hire him, budgetary uncertainty prevented them from launching a formal offer. On the contrary, the Tigers did not hesitate to contact him and bet on him to put together one of the most competitive squares on the circuit before the arrival of Miguel Piojo Herrera.

“My future was to be at AC Milan, but it took time because they didn't know their budget for next season. They didn't know if they were going to be in the Champions League, they had important players to extend. They asked me for time. April arrived and I didn't want to wait any longer,” he acknowledged to the microphones of the French media.
